TLH Academic Studio™ is BEL-C’s small-cohort academic learning environment for capable, curious learners who thrive with structure, flexibility, thoughtful guidance, and meaningful challenge.
We guide learners in developing the knowledge, skills, habits, inspiration, and love of learning they need to investigate meaningful questions, create purposeful work, and grow with confidence.
Academic Studio is not a traditional classroom, and it is not simply tutoring. It is a guided learning community where academic foundations, inquiry, projects, reflection, and real-world experiences work together.
Our guides do not simply deliver lessons. They observe, model, question, scaffold, coach, document, extend thinking, and create the conditions for learners to deepen understanding and apply knowledge with purpose.
TLH Academic Studio begins with two learning communities so learners can be guided in developmentally appropriate ways.
Trailblazers • Ages 4–8 • JK–Grade 3
For younger learners building strong foundations through guided learning, hands-on exploration, movement, conversation, early inquiry, literacy, numeracy, and creative application.
Led by a Junior Studio Lead Guide
Navigators & Pathfinders • Ages 9–15 • Grades 4–10
For older learners strengthening academic independence, research, writing, project management, critical thinking, study skills, and pathway readiness.
Led by a Senior Studio Lead Guide
In Academic Studio, BEL-C’s Play • Think • Create • Reflect cycle becomes a focused academic rhythm.
Guides introduce concepts, model strategies, surface prior knowledge, and connect skills to the week’s inquiry.
Learners build fluency through guided practice, coaching, feedback, repetition, and small-group support.
Academic skills are used in projects, research, writing, design, presentations, investigations, and real-world tasks.
Learners document progress, name next steps, share learning, revise work, and strengthen confidence.
The academic part of the day supports the project part of the day. Learners develop the reading, writing, math, research, communication, and thinking skills they need to engage deeply with the week’s inquiry.
A project may require measurement, informational reading, scientific observation, persuasive writing, mapping, design thinking, budgeting, presentation skills, or historical research. Academic workshops help learners access those skills with guidance and purpose.
The exact schedule may vary by cohort, but each week follows a predictable arc.
Introduce the inquiry, spark questions, set goals, and identify the skills learners will need.

Each Studio community is anchored by a Lead Guide who provides consistency, relationship, documentation, coaching, and academic guidance.
Visiting Guides and Specialists support deeper learning and enrichment connected to current projects. They may bring expertise in science, engineering, technology, art, design, entrepreneurship, environmental learning, community work, culture, storytelling, or other specialist areas.
Every couple of months, Studio learning may extend into the community through planned field experiences connected to current inquiries and projects.
No. TLH Academic Studio™ is a small-cohort academic support pathway within The Learning Hub™ for homeschool, hybrid, alternative, and supplemental learning families.
Studio learning can align goals, skills, documentation, and projects with Ontario curriculum expectations where appropriate.
Yes. Part-time participation may be available through selected days, blocks, or targeted academic support depending on cohort needs and availability.
Studio communities are intentionally small so learners can be known, guided, challenged, and supported. Groups grow carefully as staffing and enrolment allow.
Progress may be shared through work samples, observations, learner reflections, project documentation, portfolios, goals, and family communication.
