Belonging
We create spaces where children and adults feel welcomed, known, accepted, and part of something meaningful.
About BEL-C
How learning is held at BEL-C.
The BEACONS’ Way™ is our shared culture of care, guidance, creativity, and confidence. It shapes how we welcome children, support families, guide educators, and build learning communities.
At BEL-C, values are not words we place on a wall. They are the way we greet a child, listen to a family, prepare a room, guide a conflict, support an educator, and make decisions.
The BEACONS’ Way™ gives language to the kind of learning culture we are building: one where children feel safe, capable, creative, respected, and ready to grow.
If STREALM™ describes what learners explore, The BEACONS’ Way™ describes how that learning is held.
Our values
These values guide our interactions, learning environments, program design, family partnerships, and professional culture.
We create spaces where children and adults feel welcomed, known, accepted, and part of something meaningful.
We support children, families, educators, and providers to build voice, agency, independence, and confidence.
We honour each person’s identity, story, strengths, emotions, and path of growth.
We make room for imagination, original thought, problem-solving, design, expression, and joyful invention.
We welcome questions, diverse perspectives, cultural identities, reflection, collaboration, and new ideas.
We guide with warmth, patience, safety, encouragement, boundaries, and care for emotional well-being.
We help learners recognize their growth, trust their abilities, celebrate effort, and believe in their potential.
In practice
The BEACONS’ Way™ also comes alive through our Learning Friends. Leon Beacon and his friends help children connect values to stories, routines, choices, relationships, and everyday learning.
For younger children, values become visible through play, songs, routines, kindness, helping, and emotional language. For older learners, values become leadership, reflection, responsibility, collaboration, creativity, and purpose.
The values grow with the learner.
The BEACONS’ Way™ reminds us that learning is not only about what children know. It is also about how they feel, how they relate, how they grow, and how they come to believe in themselves.
